This weeks Managers Chat Club was the first since our annual Summer Fete and was a good chance to inform the residents how much we raised and ask what ideas they had on how they would like it to be spent. In today’s meeting the residents present were: Mary, Barbara, Maura, Pat, Vera, Pat, Tony, Barbara, Ken and Silvia.
The discussion at first concerned dogs, as Sharon was talking to the residents about her 3 pet dogs and that she takes them on trips out to the beach, and how they get all excited when she comes home from work and the residents were discussing their pets. Mary had a dog on her farm that would chase rabbits around the fields, Pat had 2 dogs, one that she adopted from her son after he got married. Barbara looked after her daughter’s dog but it unfortunately died whilst having an operation, she was called Sally. Pat’s late son had a white husky type dog. Silvia never had a dog but she did have a hamster called Fang that her son Peter named, he was sometimes friendly, but depended on what mood he was in! Pat also used to have a pet budgie and the other Pat then asked what had happened to Vera’s cockatiel that used to live in her bedroom? Sharon informed us that the bird ended up going to live with her niece.
After the pet discussion we began to talk about the money we had raised at the Summer Fete, around £850, which the residents were very impressed by! Sharon then went around the room to ask the residents what they would like the money spent on, Mary would love to have some books to read, it was explained to her that we have been in contact with our local library about setting up a library card and account for the home so that if residents would like books we can arrange to borrow them from the library and we can also borrow other equipment that they have on offer as well, such as reminiscence kits. Barbara would love to have the opportunity to make a trifle, so plans are being made so that we can do that in the next few weeks. Pat is very easy going and will take part in any activity that she has the chance to do! And she was informed about The Salvation Army coming in to sing to the residents soon as Pat used to be in The Salvation Army near Mile Cross in Norwich. She is very much looking forward to that so she can sing along to their songs! We then moved onto Vera and there was some confusion as to what she had asked, there were looks of confusion around the room when it appeared that she had said that she wanted ‘baggage’ turns out she just had a back itch! Our other Pat has requested nothing and is just happy to sit and watch the TV. We then briefly moved on to discuss that we are organising to have Barry Lee the singer come back on Saturday the 16th of September for a music fundraiser to add to the funds already raised at the Summer Fete.
The end of the Managers Chat Club finished by discussing Only Fools and Horses and how ‘this time next year we’ll be millionaires’ and a wager was made as to the name of the actor who played Delboy and how old he was, I lost the wager!
